Many men and women seek therapy individually to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behavior privately with their therapist. Clients greatly appreciate being able to talk to their therapist openly and not be judged. Therapy can be a place to practice communicating, receive feedback, and make decisions about whether or when to open up to others.
Presenting concerns for individual therapy may include: desire differences with one’s partner, low desire due to childbirth, trauma, or aging, infidelity, understanding orgasm and your body, grief, pornography overuse, sexual compulsion or addiction, depression, anxiety, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and many others.
Individual therapy begins with a 2 session assessment process where we discuss your presenting problem, family of origin, relationship history, sexual history, trauma history, job history, religious/spiritual beliefs and influences, cultural influences, and health. Other areas that may be affecting your mental and sexual health may also be discussed. Therapy goals are discussed and recommendations for treatment are made. Depending on the reason for entering therapy and your goals, therapy may last from 8 to 20 sessions. Sometimes peoples seek long term therapy when needed for support.
